Leamington LAMP is proud to continue a tradition of instigating projects for young people to develop music skills and to perform live. At LAMP we recognise that music (and the arts) is a great enabler.
Timothy Ellis worked in mainstream education for 18 years but didn’t quite fit in. The whole experience left him thinking about how to do it differently, eventually creating one of the first Alternative Education Provisions in middle England in 1999.
Back then the basic ethos was, that if you’re given the support and facilities to express your own ideas through music and art you will find the rewards of learning new skills, self fulfilment and increased confidence. Not only that but you then have the potential to enrich others lives through performance and exhibition.
Ellis's teaching method was all about having fun learning, playing, jamming, recording and performing. Past students have gone on to achieve major record deals and even Number 1 in the UK charts. Some now have full time careers in music as composers, producers and teachers.
